We explore global helioseismic measurements of torsional oscillation in the solar interior in order to pin-point when and where inside the Sun the sunspot producing magnetic field is amplified. The peculiar long-term trends in solar torsional oscillation qualitatively match the expected imprints left by magnetic tension due to a deep-rooted (below 0.85R) origin of the magnetic field. The variation of rotational kinetic energy due to torsional oscillation is observed to be concentrated at low latitudes in the lower half of the solar convection zone, signaling a possible interchange between kinetic and magnetic energy. These observations solidify the argument for a deep rooted solar dynamo, but the noise in measurements prevent us from piercing below 0.76R.
