Job Opening – Space Weather Physical Scientist at NOAA – Updated 2024-11-18

The NOAA Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) has an opening for a Physical Scientist to serve as liaison at the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) and National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). The selected candidate will be the primary point of contact for coordinating SWO, SWPC, and NCEI activities, fostering effective collaboration and communication. Responsibilities include integrating SWO-acquired satellite data and imagery and NCEI products into space weather monitoring and forecasting systems at SWPC, coordinating assessments of emerging requirements from various stakeholders, supporting user engagement activities, and coordinating training and education of NOAA staff and other stakeholders to enhance their understanding of new products and satellite observation of space weather phenomena. Additionally, the role involves managing research activities to explore innovative ways to create and utilize new data or new products for space weather forecasting and understanding.

This is a US Government Civil Servant position; applicants are required to be US citizens and expected to have applicable experience. A Ph.D. in Space Science or related subject is highly desirable. The position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. ZP-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14.
