In parametric decay, the presence of a large-amplitude Alfvén wave (the ‘pump wave’) causes small-amplitude Alfvén waves and slow magnetosonic waves to grow. In this work, the evolution of the parametric decay instability of circularly polarized, large-amplitude Alfvén wave is investigated by performing one, two and three spatial dimensions simulations. For the multidimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations, a uniform Cartesian grid with periodic boundary conditions is used, with the assumptions of no background flow and a uniform background plasma density ρ and magnetic field B0. Results from these simulations will be presented, discussed, and compared to previous numerical and analytic results.
