Session Proposals

Please complete this form to propose a session for the 2026 SHINE Workshop. Proposals are due by Friday, February 6, 2026.

As a reminder, SHINE sessions are 2.5–3 hours long and typically include one or two scene-setting speakers, each giving a ~15-minute talk to frame the discussion, followed by an extended, interactive discussion period. The exact format is left to the organizers; however, sessions should not consist of a series of AGU-style presentations.

We anticipate selecting approximately 20 sessions, and in recent years we have had to reject or merge some proposals. Selected sessions from previous years can be found under the Past Meetings menu.

What is the title of your session proposal?

Who are the session organizers and their affiliation? (SHINE sessions have worked best in the past with 2-3 organizers). In no case, there should be more than 4 organizers.

Give a short scientific introduction to the central question of the session (~3-6 sentences).

What are the three (or less) science questions which would be the focus of the session? (Three questions maximum. Compound science questions are not accepted). Session proposals with too many questions will not be considered.

What are your strategies to ensure that the session will be discussion-based and that the participants will be diverse.

Why is this session proposal best appropriate for SHINE rather than AGU or other similar meetings?

Identify 2-3 potential scene-setting speakers for your session (but do NOT invite them until we confirm acceptance of your session proposal). Think about diversifying the scene-setting speakers, especially in terms of career stage.

If your session focuses on specific case study events, what are their dates?
