Next week we will all meet in Hawaii, and we’ll all celebrate our first in-person workshop since 2019 in Colorado. However, COVID is still around, and we have to be extremely careful and vigilant. Although the vaccinations have helped immensely in protecting people that get infected, the vaccinations alone do not prevent the spread of the COVID. Since the state of Hawaii, UNH and CUA (as the meeting organizers institution) do not have any mandates on the use of masks or proof of vaccination, we will not require those either. However, all participants who wish to wear masks are encouraged to do so, and we ask that everyone be respectful of that decision.

We want every single participant of the SHINE Summer Workshop and their joining family members to be safe and feel safe. Here are our recommendations:

  • The highly congested airports and planes carry the highest risk of getting infected. We recommend the use of face masks that offer high level of protection and good sanitizing practices through your travel to Hawaii. If we all arrive healthy, we will all stay healthy.
  • During the workshop, we will provide KN95 masks at the GEM desks outside the meeting rooms.
  • The hotel will provide sanitizing stations in the conference room areas.
  • The hotel has a testing facility located on the 2nd floor. If you or your accompanying guests feel any symptoms (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle and body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or running nose) please schedule a test (https://v2safesolutions.com) before you visit the workshop meeting rooms.
  • If you or your guests test positive for COVID, there is a mandatory 5-day quarantine. The hotel will deactivate your keys, and everything will be delivered to your room. Inform the meeting organizers.
  • If you have accompanying persons or you are a student and sharing a room, they will all be moved to a separate room. The existing group rate for SHINE will be offered if any extensions and/or additional rooms are needed.
