Hello from your SHINE Student Representatives!
We hope all of your academic years are finishing up smoothly. We wanted to send an update regarding SHINE 2023. The conference will be held at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Space from August 7th – 11th. Student Day will be held on August 6th! In preparation for this year’s conference, we would like to share a few things with you.
- Financial Support
- Financial Support decisions have been made, and you should’ve received an email regarding your application’s decision sometime last week. If you have not yet received a response to your financial aid application, please contact us at shine.student.reps@gmail.com.
- If you have received financial support, please be sure to email Melinda at Horizon Travel (melinda.nyberg@gmail.com) with Christine in cc (christine.schulz@swri.org) with “SHINE Conference in Vermont” in the subject line so that your flights can be booked ASAP
- If you received financial support, please be sure to use your provided registration code when paying.
- Financial Support covers your airfare, hotel (during the nights of the conference), and some meals during the conference. Your advisor is responsible for the meals which are not included (i.e. lunches on Monday-Friday and dinner on Monday-Wednesday) and dinner on Monday-Wednesday). If you have any questions regarding what is/isn’t covered by financial support, please contact us at shine.student.reps@gmail.com.
- Registration
- If you have not done so yet, register as soon as possible. The Early Bird registration is THIS Friday, June 16, 2023, at midnight.
- Reminder: if you received financial support, be sure to use the registration code provided for you when you go to check out.
- If you applied for and received financial aid, but accidentally registered for the conference without using your registration code, please contact us at shine.student.reps@gmail.com ASAP.
- If you are bringing a guest who will be eating meals provided by SHINE, then you will be responsible for registering them as a guest and paying the guest fee at the time of registration.
- If you have not done so yet, register as soon as possible. The Early Bird registration is THIS Friday, June 16, 2023, at midnight.
- Abstract submission
- Abstract submission closes THIS Friday, June 16, 2023, at midnight. Abstract submission is through a different form than registration and can be found on your SHINE dashboard.
- If you received financial support, you are required to submit an abstract/give a poster presentation.
- You can continue to edit your abstract until the meeting day, so don’t worry if you feel like your abstract still needs work; submit your first draft by the end of this week and continue to edit until the conference.
- You do have the option to submit a PDF of your poster along with your abstract. This is not required for abstract submission or at any point before the conference but is encouraged. Again, you can make edits to your file submissions until the start of the conference.
- Student Day Participation
- Participation in Student Day is required for all graduate students who have received financial support, so be sure not to miss it!
- If you did not receive financial support but are still interested in attending Student Day, we’d love to have you! Please email us at shine.student.reps@gmail.com so that can add your name to the registration list.
- We’re looking for volunteers to give tutorial talks on Student Day. Fill out this form if you are interested: https://forms.gle/QwYfxiSfviy7hKwR8.

- Important Dates
- Early Bird Registration closes on Friday, June 16, 2023, at midnight.

- Student Day is on Sunday, August 6, 2023, starting at 8:00 am, so be sure to arrive in Stowe with enough time to make it to Student Day (arrive the night before if possible).
