Communication

We have changed the way we will share information and communicate with students by transitioning to a new platform. This means you need to make sure you are signed up for the new mailing list service (you can do that through the new sidebar on https://helioshine.org).

All information will be shared through the SHINE website. As a best practice, we strongly recommend you visit the website often for any important dates and information.

SHINE Dashboards

New this year is the SHINE Dashboard. This is your personal SHINE account where you will submit your conference-related information (Financial Support Application, Abstract, Poster Image, etc).

To set up your SHINE Dashboard watch the tutorial videos provided on the Helioshine homepage. If you have any technical issues contact webmaster@helioshine.org. For general questions please feel free to contact us!

New Student Representative

Say hello to the newest SHINE Student Representative, Fallon Konow! She will be taking over as the Junior SHINE student representative. She has been working for the past several months in preparation for this upcoming SHINE in Stowe, VT.

Fallon is a 3rd year Ph.D. candidate in a dual program between Georgia State University and the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She received her B.A. in both Astronomy and Physics in 2020 from Wesley University, and her M.S. in Physics from Georgia State University in 2022 en route to her Ph.D. She works in instrumentation, currently developing a new magneto-optical filter to observe the chromosphere of the Sun and developing code to automate remote solar observatories as part of the Tor Vergata Solar Synoptic Telescope global network. Her ultimate science driver is to understand the physics of the chromosphere better, and perhaps gain some insight on heating mechanisms of the upper solar atmosphere, and improve understanding and prediction of solar flares. Fallon is very passionate about and active in outreach, currently serving as the graduate co-lead for the Georgia Outreach Team for Space. Outside of work, Fallon loves to play sports (in particular volleyball), read fantasy/sci-fi books, watch bad TV, and play with any/all of her sibling’s dogs.
